Stainless steel in mist eliminators
Stainless steel — temperature and mechanics; the grade follows the medium
Stainless steels are used where polymers cannot withstand the temperature, the mechanics or the cleanliness requirements of the medium (food/pharma requirements). “Stainless steel” is not one steel: resistance is determined by the grade (chromium, nickel, molybdenum) and the medium.
When to consider it
- elevated temperatures;
- mechanical loads and requirements for pack rigidity;
- hygienic requirements and wash-down.
Caveats
- the steel grade follows the medium (chlorides are dangerous for a number of grades);
- welding and passivation — per the manufacturer procedure;
- the pack is heavier than polymers — check the supporting structures.
