Mist eliminator in wet gas scrubbing

Scrubber → separator: an aggressive medium dictates the materials

Schematic diagram, not an installation drawing.

In wet gas scrubbing the gas contacts the scrubbing liquid; at the outlet the stream is saturated with drops. The medium is often aggressive (acidic/alkaline solutions), so the separator material is selected from chemical compatibility tables, and the duty from the model data sheet.

Selection inputs

  • the flow rate and composition of the gas at the scrubber outlet;
  • the composition and temperature of the scrubbing liquid;
  • the allowable ΔP of the assembly;
  • requirements for liquid/mist carryover.

Design options

Coalescing stages — for fine mist; vane packs — for large drops; hybrid designs — for a mixed fraction. Materials — PP/PVC/stainless steel by compatibility; confirmation — with the manufacturer.
