How to select a mist eliminator: five steps
Point → duty → family → calculation → data sheet: five verifiable steps
Short answer: selection is a route of five verifiable steps: the installation point, the duty, the design family, preliminary calculations, verification against the data sheet and the questionnaire.
The five steps
- The installation point. After a cooler, a humidifier, in a spray chamber, at the intake, in wet gas scrubbing — see “Applications”.
- The duty. Flow rates (operating/maximum), the section, flow orientation, the medium, temperature, droplet load.
- The family. Vanes/mesh/coalescer/hybrid — by the mechanism and limitations; see the comparison in “Catalog”.
- The calculations. Velocity in the section, required section size, ΔP from ζ, energy impact — the site tools.
- The data sheet and the form. A request to the manufacturer with recorded inputs; allowable velocities and efficiency — from the data sheet.
What not to do
- select a model “from a neighbor catalog” without checking the duty;
- compare models by “efficiency” without identical test conditions;
- forget drainage: a mist eliminator without runoff is a source of re-entrainment.
