Polypropylene (PP) in mist eliminators

PP — the baseline polymer: light and resistant to a range of media, verified against tables

Polypropylene is a common material for vanes and meshes: it is light, easy to manufacture and resistant to a range of aqueous media. The operating temperature range and resistance to specific reagents (concentration! temperature! exposure time!) are checked against the compatibility tables of the polymer producer.

When to consider it

  • aqueous and weakly concentrated media without temperature extremes;
  • requirements for a low pack weight.

Caveats

  • temperature limits — per the polymer documentation, not “from experience”;
  • resistance to organic solvents and oxidizers — assessed individually;
  • flammability/smoke emission — if the project sets such requirements.
